The Department of Culture, being the government arm responsible for overall national cultural development; has continued to support KENYA MUSIC WEEK since its 2004 inception.

Over the past four years the Department of Culture has set an example to the rest of the Industry by participating in KENYA MUSIC WEEK as an Exhibitor.

The Department of Culture has also leant their support to KENYA MUSIC WEEK by availing the Director of Culture and the Permanent Secretary or the Minister for Gender, Sports, Culture & Social Services to officially open each KENYA MUSIC WEEK giving the event a higher standing as a Government-supported initiative.

And as the Department of Culture is very interested in the improvement of the Industry, it has requested Kenya Music Week Limited for outcomes from every KENYA MUSIC WEEK; and has worked towards assisting the Music Industry to lobby the various Government agencies for improvement. For example, recommendations from previous KENYA MUSIC WEEK’s has enabled the Department of Culture to successfully lobby the Ministry of Finance for removal of duty on guitars and zero-rating of VAT on live performances.
